Right Food for the Season - Late Summer
Written by Michelle Lahey

Summer might be coming to an end, but there are several ways to savor its last few minutes. Going to the beach, drinking a mojito and biting into a juicy peach are all relevant activities that come to mind.

peach saladGrowing up, peaches were a treat during the summertime. This beach bum recalls many hot days, sitting in the Hampton Beach sand and sinking my teeth into a soft, succulent peach. The sticky, sweet juice running down my hands and face was an easy fix thanks to the ocean waters only a few feet away. It was a delightful experience that only the summer could bring.

While a peach is delicious on its own, the fruit's juiciness and sweetness makes it easy to incorporate in desserts and other sweet dishes. Crisp, pie and jam are just a few of the delights that come to mind. But with Labor Day barbecues on the horizon, it's only fair to enjoy the peach's - and summer's - final days with these savory peach recipes from some of my favorite go-to resources:

1.) Peach and Brie Quesadillas with Lime-Honey Dipping Sauce

2.) Pork Chops with Peach Barbecue Sauce

3.) Tomato, Radicchio and Grilled-Peach Salad with Basil Oil

4.) Savory Peach and Mozzarella Fresca Bruschetta on Walnut Bread

5.) Halibut with Zesty Peach Salsa

No matter how you choose to enjoy your last few days of summer, make sure to spend some time savoring a few bites of this luscious fruit.
